In ELA with Mrs. Evans, students built their class reading community by discussing Our Class is a Family and learning how to support one another—just like family! Students practiced long vowels, r-controlled vowels, and open/closed syllables to strengthen reading, spelling, and writing. Students also continue to work on their close reading strategies and listening skills with Listening Ninja. They used text evidence to answer questions, wrote thoughtful journal responses, and learned to identify an author’s purpose. Proud of these focused and hardworking readers you are ready to LEAD with respect, PREPARE with purpose, EXCEL with effort!

Mrs. Cliett’s first grade Discovery students are excited to adopt their very own classroom pet. Each student completed an adoption application and filled out an animal information card to officially “adopt” their new furry, scaly, or feathery friend. Throughout this unit, students will explore the responsibilities that come with pet ownership, including learning how to budget for their animal’s needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. They will also dive into research to discover fun facts and important details about their chosen pet. This hands-on project encourages responsibility, problem-solving, and creativity while making learning meaningful and fun.

✏️📚Mrs. Evans’s classes are wasting no time getting to work! This week, students have been busy constructing sentences, practicing close reading strategies, and reviewing grammar rules—like capitalization and punctuation. They’ve also tackled identifying the parts of speech and using context clues to strengthen reading comprehension. 💪🏾🍎
They’re already building strong reading and writing habits that will carry them through the year—and beyond! #LPE #LeadPrepareExcel #VikingWay #BuildingSkills
