📚✨ What’s in the bag?! ✨📚

This week, Mrs. Evans’s students sharpened their inferencing skills with a hands-on mystery challenge! 👀👜 Using only their sense of touch and their prior knowledge, students had to guess the hidden items inside the bag.

The room was full of excitement, teamwork, and some pretty incredible guesses! 🔍💡 Activities like this make learning fun while helping students think critically and use context clues in new ways.

🌪️ Our 2nd graders dove into nonfiction this week with the text Hurricanes! They explored text features, learned their purposes, and went on a “Text Feature Hunt” to spot them in action. 📚✨ Students especially enjoyed this text because they could all relate to it after experiencing Hurricane Helene last year. 💡

📚✨ Today was an exciting day for our 4th graders in Mrs. Evans’s class! Students attended orientation in the Media Center, where they learned about the library's expectations, how to check out books, and even created their own bookmarks. 🤩✂️📖

The highlight of the day was receiving their library cards and checking out their very first books of the year. The smiles on their faces said it all — a new year of reading adventures has officially begun! 💛 #ReadersAreLeaders #LPEFamily #TheVikingWay

In ELA with Mrs. Evans, students built their class reading community by discussing Our Class is a Family and learning how to support one another—just like family! Students practiced long vowels, r-controlled vowels, and open/closed syllables to strengthen reading, spelling, and writing. Students also continue to work on their close reading strategies and listening skills with Listening Ninja. They used text evidence to answer questions, wrote thoughtful journal responses, and learned to identify an author’s purpose. Proud of these focused and hardworking readers you are ready to LEAD with respect, PREPARE with purpose, EXCEL with effort!

Mrs. Cliett’s first grade Discovery students are excited to adopt their very own classroom pet. Each student completed an adoption application and filled out an animal information card to officially “adopt” their new furry, scaly, or feathery friend. Throughout this unit, students will explore the responsibilities that come with pet ownership, including learning how to budget for their animal’s needs such as food, shelter, and healthcare. They will also dive into research to discover fun facts and important details about their chosen pet. This hands-on project encourages responsibility, problem-solving, and creativity while making learning meaningful and fun.
